The Quintet hit Kampot and Kep...

Fisherman at Sunset - Kep, Cambodia

19/11 - 23/11 Kampot & Kep, Cambodia

Cambodia is a very special place to me and Kampot/Kep are especially close to my heart. I'm not sure if it's because I've been there in every weather imaginable or the fact I've spent time there with people I care about; either way, it really resonates with me. I think everyone I was with there, for this specific time, was going through something significant in their life. It felt as though we really were put with each other for a reason; to talk, support, laugh, drink and mess around together.

So, it was me, the trio (from Vietnam) and one of their siblings; The Quintet! It was actually so great. I only found out the day before getting to that region that they were also all there. We had been planning for weeks to try and meet ; I mean, we were in the same country again, we had to meet even just for a day. However, we managed to spend an amazing 5 days together. It was also a bonus that I had knowledge of the area (as I had been before) and knew the country quite well.

I actually didn't get my big camera out much, nor take many pictures at all really; I truly just enjoyed every minute of being there with these crazy people. We did some things I had done before (with the bonus of beautiful sunshine this time); such as driving up Bokor Mountain (ON MY OWN). For someone who would never go alone on a bike, when I first started travelling, I bossed the 32km of extremely windy roads leading to the top of Bokor Mountain (around 1,101 metres high)... We stumbled upon an amazing viewpoint, sat by the waterfall for a while and generally had such a great day exploring.

We also visited Rabbit Island in Kep, somewhere I'd wanted to see when I went before, but it was waaaaay too rainy to even get the boat out, let alone enjoy being there. It was good, however, there is a serious litter problem. We wanted to explore the other beaches (I had been told about them,) so we went on a beach hunt around the other side of the island. When we got to them, rubbish was on every single beach we found... everywhere. It made me so sad to see. Why come to this beautiful place and then spoil it? The amount of plastic... agh man... it was just ridiculous. Anyway, we ventured back to the original side where the food/drink vendors were and got our spot. We all just chilled out the max; sunbathing, getting too hot and jumping in the clear blue water... the only challenge from then on was trying to drink our g&t's before the ice melted! Not a bad life really...

An area of beach without any litter!

Chillaxing and relaxing...

If I'm honest, it was more of a 'holiday' vibe instead of travelling, we went kayaking, relaxed on beaches, drank A LOT... ate the famous Kep crab and danced like loonies to old 80's tunes. But it was perfect and exactly what I needed at that time. So, you know who you are and if you're reading this THANK YOU for an amazing time...

Next time: I go to a special Khmer wedding and say my goodbyes to Cambodia for the final time before heading off to the Philippines!
